Even a secret agent occasionally has enough. Like, for instance, when Hektor Maille learns after his Australian assignment that he must, instead of returning home to Santa Lemusa, proceed to Syria. As he considers his latest diktat, he is robbed of speech, as it were – and so he travels without text from Qala'at-al-Hosn via Homs and Palmyra back to Damascus. Without text?
