The excitement that ensued having received a letter from Prof Dr Izak Boukman (more about him in German), inviting us to hold a seminar at Faculty des Lettres, University of Santa Lemusa, shows little sign of abating. The University of Santa Lemusa is initiating a broader dialogue by focusing on different traditions, and the seminar entitled «Women’s texts in Iran: an oral telling» invites three women writers to the lush isle of Santa Lemusa (a short profile of the island) to present their writings, which in all likelihood will never be published, and present them in an open forum. Amid the enthusiastic debates at our meetings as to what we will actually present at the seminar, our texts, at times hastily scrawled on scraps of paper and some hidden even under the carpet to keep them from prying eyes, that we must gather and compile, there is much discussion about us visiting Santa Lemusa. Apart from having the opportunity to share and travel across the world for the first time, we are already preoccupied with thoughts of experiences to come – the sites we will see, the local cuisine we will taste, the people we will meet, the swims in the sea, the walks on the beach, and, though we do not openly speak about it, secretly relishing thoughts of throwing caution to the wind. Our minds are already forming images of what our bodies will eventually encounter and lead us to reset those very images.

Little else has been in focus for the last eight months or so, for that’s when we first received the invitation. And then, this great lull – officialdom takes its time plus other nuances of life have a way of interrupting the best of laid plans. But, finally, there are faint movements and we pack our bags. There is still much to sort out and having done so, we should be ready to take off… Soon we will arrive and tell our stories, all we ask from you is that you be there and take the liberty to listen to the lines that are drawn and written.
