Observations

When I woke up early this morning the boat was completely quiet. We had probably drifted away somewhere during the night. I heard how the wind was rustling the leaves of a tree, the branches of which must be stretching right over our boat. Thus had I imagined our boat to take of from. Thousands of people, who would wordlessly wave little flags made of rather stiff fabric, no fireworks and no brass band. Without a sound we would give the harbour mole a skip – quite like one lifts the hand from a body, whose skin one wishes to stroke more and more. Without a murmur we would glide out of the harbour and into the open waters. The sound of the flags would grow softer and softer, and finally seem like the rustle in the wind-blown leaves of the tree overhead. Can anything make you happier than dreaming about the world in this fashion in the morning?

As I discovered shortly afterwards, it was a hazelnut tree that had its arms outstretched over us.
