Brasilia (Brazil) Museo Nacional – Esplanada dos Ministérios, Eixo Monumental (map)

Saturday, 31 October 2015

As Brasilia rose from the ground as the new capital of Brazil in the late 1950s, nothing represented the development more than the automobile. In accordance with this, the city is so designed and laid out that the traffic can flow as smoothly and unhindered as possible – multiple-lane roads, bridges, tunnels, embankments, and loops facilitate a frictionless parallel and cross-vehicular traffic. Here, one does not see traffic queues like those in Sao Paulo which struggle forward centimetre by centimetre. In fact, the automobile traffic in Brasilia appears so smooth and elegant that, in comparison, as a pedestrian one feels ponderous – and it’s unsurprising that at every street-corner one comes across young Brazilians practising on skateboards.
