Dakar, Place de Soweto (IFAN)

Scene 20

The success of a secret agent depends basically also on his skill in using or turning accidental conditions, finds and events to his advantage. When Maille was in a corner of the park, he chanced upon a dancer’s costume lying in the shrubs – a type of full-length gown made of straw: a wearable hut, as it were. So disguised, Maille plodded through the IFAN garden, but every now and then he would perform a couple of wild springs in order not to fall in the general state of excitement into too much of a rhythmic frame. The costume was terribly scratchy and stank as if a sheep had been allowed to sleep in it overnight – but as a camouflage it was unbeatable.
